This year, the Julian calendar used by the Western Church and the Gregorian calendar used by the Eastern Church coincide, so it’s everyone’s Easter Sunday. This includes our Coptic brothers and sister, who use their own calendar system. So many calendars.
Despite our calenderic (new word!) differences, we all calculate when Easter falls based on a 4th-century equation: it’s the first Sunday after the 1st full moon after the vernal equinox. Clear?
No matter when we celebrate, this is our whole reason for worshiping Jesus, the foundation on which we stand, and our hope for the future. Happy Resurrection Day, everyone.
