Experts say this is the worse day of the year. I suspect some of that is due in part to the hard sugar crash people are having. It is also the Feast of Epiphany, or as I’m coming to know it, the Day of the Plumber.
We were going to have a party for Epiphany, as has become our custom, but for a variety of reasons, it didn’t happen this year. It turned out to be providential because late Friday afternoon we discovered a gas leak, and we haven’t had heat or hot water since then. Hopefully, this situation will be resolved by the end of the day, but it’s not prime feasting circumstance.
Add to that the deep freeze most of the continent is in, then yeah, January 6 doesn’t look to be a great day. But. . .
I like the Feast of Epiphany. I don’t want to be depressed, angry, or otherwise bummed out. Even though we aren’t going to have a big blowout, we’ll have a mini-feast with just the six of us. We’ll make a King Cake, complete with the traditional Monopoly piece. We’ll have steak because if you can’t party big, party well.
We’re cold, but we can cuddle up and read books. Or we can bundle up, turn on some dance music and get warm. Or we can laugh.
Happy Feast of Epiphany. Here are some aids to jumpstart your joy.
