My column today at The Washington Times Community Pages is my favorite I have written by far.  I talked and corresponded with a variety of immigrants and their children to find out their thoughts and celebrations of Thanksgiving.  It was a lot of fun hearing what they thought of my favorite holiday and how they added their own cultural tang to the day.

I was struck by two things. First, how unique America and Canada are to have a day set aside for the entire nation to give thanks. The second thing is how universal the spirit of the holiday is. Paraphrasing Joseph Canete, an immigrant from Paraguay, “Everyone has something to be thankful for.”

I hope you enjoy the article as much as I enjoyed writing it. I would love to spend Thanksgiving with all those I interviewed for it. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts with me. Have a blessed and peaceful Thanksgiving.
