Good works

Resurrection of Tabitha

One of my favorite descriptions in the Bible is of Tabitha in the book of Acts. She cared for the poor, sewing clothes for the widows. Acts says, “This woman was full of good works and charitable deeds which she did.” (Acts 9:36, NKJV)

I love that picture of there being a reservoir of good works inside her for to do, and she did them! (Yes, I understand “which she did” goes with the phrase “charitable deed.” Work with me.)

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

It can be taken with the help of food as well but in most of the cases people do not viagra france know the fact that you may feel humiliated. We’re created for good works, works that God has prepared just for us, and we ought to do them.

That’s encouraging to me. So often as a homeschool mom who spends most of my days isolated from the wide world, I don’t feel like I’m making an impact outside of my family. But that’s not how I ought to look at it. First, I am making a huge impact in the lives of my children and husband, and that’s no small thing. Second, God has created good works for me to do, and I can do them — I’m called to do them here and now. I don’t have to look for good to do, God has already put those good works he has for me inside me. Like Tabitha, I’m filled with good works, and I have a duty to do them.

Sewing some clothes might not have seemed like a big thing to Tabitha, but they had a large impact on her community. The good work that seems small to us may make all the difference in the world to the person who receives the benefit of that good work.

What good works do you feel called to do?
